Suspect apprehended after restaurant robbery.

On Wednesday, August 12 at 7:37 PM, our Bates Security monitoring station received a silent panic button alarm from a commercial customer.

According to the business owner, a man came in the front door of the restaurant waving a box cutter blade.  He ran into the back of the store where he forced the cashier to give him money.  Police arrived on the scene within minutes and were able to apprehend the suspect around the corner from the restaurant.

A panic button is a strategically placed device that, when pressed, will automatically alert the police to an emergency threat within a business.  The purpose of the placement is to allow an employee to press the button without the intruder noticing.  These types of silent alarms are becoming more popular in banks, gas stations and even schools.
